Eight Ways to Hype Your Kiosk

Amanda Luzzader

It’s time to create awareness, excitement, and interest to surround your kiosk. How do you hype your kiosk? Here’s a short list of quick tips.

So, you’re ready to deploy a kiosk to accept donations, sign-up volunteers, or collect survey responses. Perhaps you’ve got an upcoming event and the kiosk will be available. You know that the ease of use, efficiency, and security of the kiosk will help your organization attract new donors, find volunteers, or gather data. Everything is ready to go.

What can you do now? Hype your kiosk, of course. It’s time to create awareness, excitement, and interest to surround your kiosk. How do you hype your kiosk? Here’s a short list of quick tips.

1. Conduct training for your kiosk.

Kiosks are fast, convenient, and easy to use. However, provide kiosk training to as many of your staff and volunteers as possible. Those with kiosk training will be able to troubleshoot and provide technical support to gizmo-averse users, and they can also encourage others to use the kiosk.

2. Give your kiosk a home.

Find a dedicated place for your kiosk and keep it there. Establishing a permanent home for your kiosk will get your volunteers, donors, and other supporters accustomed to seeing and using it.

3. Spotlight your kiosk.

Make announcements specifically about your kiosk on social media and in e-mail newsletters. Include photos and video of the kiosk. Be sure that all of your followers, subscribers, and supporters know about the kiosk, understand what it’s for, and know where to find it.

4. Announce your kiosk.

During events, break in with periodic announcements about your kiosk. Show event attendees where it’s located, explain how to use it, and encourage your attendees to check it out.

5. Showcase your kiosk.

Create an eye-catching kiosk space, especially at events. Balloons, banners, and event displays can guide users to the kiosk. Seasonal decorations (jack-o-lanterns, Christmas trees, etc.), treat bowl, or costumed mascot can also be used to draw attention.

6. Expose your kiosk.

Thoughtfully select a place for your kiosk that will expose it to view, such as in your main lobby, at the entranceway to a main gathering space, or near an event registration area. Train staff and volunteers to point out the kiosk and encourage its use.

7. Respond.

When applicable, furnish responses to the feedback you receive. When those who provide feedback through a kiosk system receive a response, even a simple acknowledgement, they feel heard and validated. This positive reinforcement leads to more frequent feedback and even higher-quality feedback. Taking action on recommendations in feedback, even if they are small things, like changing the soap in the restrooms, could encourage more engagement and foster more feedback.

8. Keep on hyping.

Now that you’ve hyped your kiosk, do it again! Update your in-house kiosk periodically and make it a regular part of all your events, even small ones. Create a staff or volunteer kiosk squad to set up and manage your kiosk and its display elements. With each new call for support or data-gathering effort, circulate a new round of hype.
